On May 12, Aidar Kazybayev, CEO of AIFC Green Finance Centre Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the Center), held a meeting with Valentin Morozov, Chairman of the Management Board of Eurasian Bank JSC (hereinafter referred to as the Bank). During the meeting, a presentation of the AIFC's activities, including the Expat Centre, was held.

At the meeting, the prospects for cooperation between the parties in the field of green finance were discussed in detail. In particular, in the near future, the Bank together with the Center will launch new green tools to support environmental projects, as well as work on the implementation of fintech solutions in the field of low-carbon development.

The Eurasian Bank supported the initiative of the Center to create a new Environmental Fund at the AIFC site and intends to attract Mastercard as a partner of the Fund. This agreement will be consolidated within the framework of the planned signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the AIFC Green Finance Center, the Eurasian Bank, Mastercard and the Mayor's Office of Almaty. The city of Almaty will be selected as a pilot city for landscaping through the Environmental Fund being created.

In addition, the Eurasian Bank will actively participate in the Green Growth Forum on July 2-3, 2021, held within the framework of Astana Finance Days.

 

The Astana International Financial Centre was created by the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Leader of the Nation, Nur-Sultan Nazarbayev as part of the “100 steps to implement five institutional reforms” national program. The Centre’s development strategy until 2025 was approved by the Management council of the AIFC during the council’s meeting on July 2, 2020. In accordance with the strategy, the vision of AIFC is in becoming the leading financial centre in the region that includes Central Asia, the Caucasus, EAEU countries, western China, Mongolia, and Eastern Europe.

 

The AIFC Green Finance Centre is an AIFC Organisation created to enable the development of green finance in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The main goal is to bring investments to sustainable economy through trending financial instruments, such as green and social bonds. In addition to that, the AIFC Green Finance Centre, being a regional think-tank, provides strategic and business consulting in green finance and sustainable development to Governments, quasi-state organisations and entrepreneurs. The Centre provides initial assistance to potential issuers, investors and market players on preparations for the issuance of green bonds on the AIFC Exchange (Astana International Exchange).
