A delegation of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) is taking part, the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) Conference that started in London. The conference is devoted to the development of the green bond market, the investment potential of green projects, the efforts made by countries to introduce green financing and the scaling of successful cases.
The conference included a bilateral meeting between AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov and the CEO of CBI Sean Kidney, as well as a ceremony celebrating the winners of the Green Bond Pioneer Awards. Several winners received awards from the AIFC Governor. K. Kelimbetov thanked the conference organizers for the opportunity to present the activities of the AIFC to investors interested in financing green projects.
“In Kazakhstan, we are increasing our potential and promoting the system of green finance to ensure sustainable economic and financial growth. We are pleased to see investors’ interest and are taking further steps to accelerate the development of the green capital market in Central Asia,” - said AIFC Governor.
Representatives of the AIFC delegation took part in the round “How financial centres for sustainability can help grow the market” and spoke about the “Regulators and the growth of green finance”.
It bears to note that, the AIFC signed a membership agreement with the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), a non-profit organization focused on investors and encouraging large-scale investment in a low-carbon economy in February of this year.
Joining the Climate Bonds affiliate program is in line with the AIFC goal of making the region more attractive for the green capital flows required for long-term, climate-resilient and low-carbon infrastructure projects. AIFC is the first CBI partner among Central Asian countries.
