The AIFC Green Finance Centre held a webinar on “Legal aspects of environmental protection and how to use them effectively” in cooperation with Unicase and Haller Lomax law firms.
Arman Bigazin, Partner at Haller Lomax Law Firm, and Nurlan Kubenov, Senior Associate at Unicase Law Firm were the speakers at the webinar. The webinar discussed the necessary legal measures for the Republic of Kazakhstan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
Nurlan Kubenov spoke about the target indicators that Kazakhstan should achieve, the successes and challenges in implementing climate change policies, as well as revealed information on how the requirements of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement are being implemented in Kazakhstan.
Arman Bigazin, an independent expert who was in the working group and participated in the development of the new Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made a presentation on important amendments to the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and basic requirements in the field of environmental protection. The speaker also dwelled on the preconditions for the development of a new Code, conducted a comparative analysis of the provisions and spoke about the main developments in the legislation, new approaches to environmental impact assessment, environmental permits, damages and liability.
