Aidar Kazybayev, the CEO of the AIFC Green Finance Centre ltd. (hereinafter - GFC), met with Deputies of akim of the city of Almaty Ilyas Userov and Maksat Kikimov.

During the meeting, A. Kazybayev presented the activities of the GFC and offered cooperation with the akimat of Almaty within the creation of a joint project office "Almaty - zhasyl kala" to increase the volume of investments in the region by creating a flow of green and social investments.

The main tasks of this project office will be the development of a draft concept of sustainable development in Almaty for 2021-2025, the placement of at least two green and/or social bonds on the AIFC exchange platform, as well as attracting 50 million US dollars of investments. Deputy akim supported this initiative and proposed to the GFC to provide an international expert to coordinate the project office. CEO of GFC noted that Viktor Kovalenko the Deputy Head of Ernst and Young for Central, Eastern, Southeast Europe and Central Asia, confirmed his willingness to provide an international expert in the framework of cooperation. Aidar Kazybayev also stressed that GFC and Ernst and Young can be a harmonious team for working with the akimat of the city of Almaty.

The Astana International Financial Centre was created by the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Leader of the Nation, Nur-Sultan Nazarbayev as part of the “100 steps to implement five institutional reforms” national program. The Centre’s development strategy until 2025 was approved by the Management council of the AIFC during the council’s meeting on July 2, 2020. In accordance with the strategy, the vision of AIFC is in becoming the leading financial centre in the region that includes Central Asia, the Caucasus, EAEU countries, western China, Mongolia, and Eastern Europe.

As the head of state Tokayev noted, “AIFC, with its unique opportunities, can act as a universal platform that connects the countries in the region. The strategic directions for the sustainable development of the AIFC include the development of a circular economy, financial technologies, and “digital financial centre.”
